Sandusky Varsity Baseball Rally in Memphis

The Sandusky Varsity Wolves traveled to Memphis Monday night to take on the YellowJackets in a league double header.
The Wolves jumped out to an early lead in game one, rallying for three runs in the second inning and another two runs in the third. Memphis managed to get on the board with a couple runs between the fourth and fifth innings but the Wolves brought their bats in the fifth and rallied for nine runs to take the win 15-2.
Tyler Franzel took the mound for the Sandusky Wolves in game one, lasting four innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five. John Minard threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen with one strikeout and no hits.
Barry Lester had three RBIs on two hits. Peyton Bowerman led the bats for the Wolves in the win, with two hits and four RBIs. Caleb Minard had three hits and an RBI, Tyler Franzel had three hits and two RBIs. Kory Lambson had two hits and two RBIs. John Minard had a hit and an RBI and Daniel Tovar had a hit.
Sandusky played the role of the home team in game two and rocketed off to an early lead again, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and seven in the bottom of the second. Sandusky kept Memphis scoreless for the first four innings, giving up a lone run in the top of the fifth. Sandusky took the win 13-1.
John Minard and Jackson Kartanys split pitching duties for the game, with both pitchers giving up a lone hit each. Minard struck out three and Kartanys struckout five in the landslide victory over the YellowJackets.
Jackson Kartanys was efficient with his hitting on the game, only landing the bat once but driving in three with the hit. Barry Lester led the bats with three hits and an RBI. Caleb Minard had two hits and an RBI. John Minard, Daniel Tovar and Peyton Bowerman each had a hit and an RBI in the contest, with Bowerman earning a second RBI.
Sandusky improve their record to a perfect 6-0 in the league with the pair of wins over Memphis and improve their overall record to 13-6, after losing tough games to Caro and Almont last week.
The Wolves are hitting the road this Saturday to take on the Yale Bulldogs at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica for a double header in a real deal minor league stadium. The first game starts at 10:00 a.m. with the second game following directly after at noon. Entry is free for all who wish to attend.
