Area XC Athletes Excel at Shepherd; Wagener Park Regionals — Red Raiders and Select Area Runners Headed to State Finals
The Cross Country Regular Season has come to a close as area runners competed at Wagener Park and Shepherd for a chance to run in the state championship meet on November 2nd. At the MHSAA LP Region 35-4 Wagener Park Meet, in the boys division, qualifying for the Div. 4 state meet individually was Evan Gobie of Deckerville, with a time of 18:14.
The Marlette boys had 4 runners in the top 20 (Nino Perna 17:45, Turlough Bennett 17:48, Anthony Rosario 18:38, and Caden Meyer 18:40); qualifying the team for the Div. 4 state meet. Brayden Kirkpatrick, Cameron King, and Walker Chapin also had outstanding performances. The Marlette boys earned runner up for the Regional title behind Dryden.
At the MHSAA LP Region 25-3 Meet at Shepherd High School in the boys division, Sebastian Seifferlein finished in 21st with a time of 17:44, qualifying him for the Div. 3 state meet. In the girls division, Maddie Huysentruyt finished 8th place with a time of 20:21 to secure her place at the Div. 3 MHSAA Cross Country State Finals at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI.
The State Finals will take place this Saturday, November 2nd, kicking off with the first race of the day, the Division 4 boys race, at 9:30 am. The Division 3 boys race will set off at 10:10 am and Division 3 girls race will begin at 11:30 am. Awards presentations for both Divisions 3 and 4 will take place at approximately 12:15 pm.
