CELEBRATE SUCCESS: Congratulations to all of the recipients of this year’s Sandusky Chamber of Commerce annual awards. Citizen of the Year-Erin Ross; Civic Samaritan of the Year-Rick Pangburn; Volunteer of the Year-Community Hearts; Youth Group of the Year-Sandusky High School Key Club; and Business of the Year-Northstar Bank.
There were many nominations for the Chamber accolades. Each of the awarded should be commended on a job well done. They join a notable and long list of dedicated community champions throughout our history. Each has taken action with measurable results and made Sandusky a better place to live.
Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce group for leading the way by celebrating the success, people and businesses of our community.

Speaking of the Sandusky Chamber, the Thumb Festival Committee is busy planning this year’s June celebration.
All of last year’s favorites are scheduled to return, including the downtown entertainment tent, beach volleyball, craft show, car show, kids fun day, parade, and fireworks. The most notable addition will be the dedication of the new Military Memorial on the Courthouse Lawn.

REDSKIN-MICKEY: The Sandusky High School Marching Band has recently returned after performing at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The band, boosters and parents work tirelessly to raise funds for trip offered only at four year intervals.

PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS: The Sanilac County Republican Party is offering free Lincoln Dinner admission to student attendees this year. The group, through individual donations, is offering the opportunity for high school and college students to listen to a host of speakers and educate themselves about the conservative group. They are also interested in learning the perspectives of both high school and college students. A limited number of free student tickets are available. SNOW-BIRDS UNITE: The Yale, Peck, Melvin, Sandusky, Avoca, Brown City and Goodells annual Florida Picnic will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 12:00 noon. It will be held at Oaks Royal I-II Park on Dean Dairy Rd., Zephyrhills, Florida. Attendees should bring a dish to pass and your own table service. Come early meet your fellow migratory mates. MARLETTE’S GOT TALENT: The talent show is an annual event for grades K-12. It will take place in the Marlette High School cafeteria on March 8th at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, but there is an optional opportunity to purchase voting tickets and vote for your favorite act.

RAIDER BAND: The Marlette Jr./Sr. High School will host a band concert featuring the 7th-12th grade bands on Wednesday, February 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Come out and support the students as they get ready for Band Festival.

PERCH-LESS: If you’re planning to fish for yellow perch this spring, keep in mind that there’s a new daily possession limit – 25 fish, reduced from 50 – starting April 1 on nearly all state waters. Exceptions include: Lake Erie, which will retain a 50-fish daily limit. Lake Gogebic in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties, which will have the 25-fish daily limit, but with no more than five of those fish being 12 inches or longer.

Osmulski Benefit: A Spaghetti Benefit Dinner for Cindy Osmulski, who continues to overcome health challenges, will be held on Saturday, February 23, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, Sandusky.
Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, dinner rolls, desserts, beverages. Raffles for gift baskets.

BOWLING FOR A CURE: Sanilac County Relay for Life will hold a Scotch Doubles Bowling Tournament on February 23, at 7:00 p.m., at Liberty Lanes in Sandusky.

HISTORY BUFFS: The February meeting of the St. Clair Family History Group will be on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Marysville Library, 1175 Delaware Avenue, Marysville, Michigan. The meeting will begin with the program “Volga German’s of St. Clair County” and is being presented by Tim Weeder. The program will be followed by a business meeting. Light refreshments will be served. Anyone interested in local history or researching their family history is welcome to attend as a guest, or may become a member.

SANDBAGGER: Winter Euchre parties will be held on: Sunday, February 24, Sunday, March 24 and Sunday, April 28 at St. Joseph Hall in Argyle, starting at 1:00 p.m. An entry fee is charged. Prizes awarded and a light lunch served after play is completed. Sponsored by the Good Shepherd Altar Society.

TUFF ENOUGH: Little Shavers Free Self Defense class will be held at Marlette Regional Hospital East Campus Building, on Saturday, March 30, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
The class is for children ages 6 to 10 years and must be accompanied by a parent. Participants will be taught the Stranger Rules Checklist. People Smarts and Stranger Danger tips, calling 9-1-1, simple striking, stunning and escaping techniques.
