Heralding Homeless Awareness Month

Caro, Michigan: As a homeless services provider and the local Housing Assessment and Resource Agency (HARA), Human Development Commission (HDC), in partnership with Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness (MCAH), would like to announce that Homeless Awareness Month (HAM) takes place every November in Michigan to raise awareness about issues relating to housing insecurity and homelessness and to get communities invested in making a difference. Michigan’s observance, which has taken place for nearly 20 years, has become an essential part of our collective effort to promote awareness and understanding of those experiencing homelessness.
This year’s theme is “Homeless Not Hopeless”. The goal of this theme is to highlight the hope that exists in our communities. We encourage you as the holidays approach and you are counting your blessing and thanksgivings, to reflect on those that are not fortunate enough to have homes and help spread awareness for the issue of homelessness in our communities.
Human Development Commission is a non-profit Community Action Agency that services Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, and Tuscola Counties. With over 60 programs, they strive to fulfill their mission statement, “Restoring hope by helping people and changing lives.” HDC has two departments that focus on ending homelessness. The agency’s homeless department operates the federal and state funded homeless to housing programs that provide rapid rehousing and permanent supportive housing rental assistance and case management to literally homeless individuals, couples, and families.
HDC also operates the HARA which is a community initiative to end homelessness and operates as a single point of entry for anyone experience or at risk of facing homelessness. To contact any of the programs HDC operates, call 1-800-843-6394.
