Andrea Brecht, Nurse of the Year

MARLETTE-Marlette Regional Hospital (MRH) celebrated National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week May 10 – 16, 2015. As part of week-long activities that celebrated MRH staff, a special presentation was held to announce and award the MRH Nurse of the Year.
The Nurse of the Year program started in 2011 and is organized by the MRH Nurse Practice Council. Cynthia Parsell, RN of the MRH cardiopulmonary department and Diane Hogan, RN of the MRH long-term care unit were co-recipients of the 2014 election and were featured on billboards last summer. To be considered for the MRH Nurse of the Year, all nominees have had to demonstrate the following characteristics: provide outstanding direct patient care; have an extensive knowledge base; be a forward thinker who can anticipate problems and creatively put forth solutions; initiate change to better serve patients; work well in a team; motivate others; show cultural or generational sensitivities; and initiate change to better serve patients.
Nominated and voted on by peers, this year’s award recipient was Andrea Brecht, RN of the MRH emergency department. Andrea has been in the nursing field for 19 years and has been serving patients at Marlette Regional Hospital since 1996. Andrea is a highly-skilled, well-established RN. She is an exceptional team member, working to build bridges between departments and filling in when needed. With her helpful demeanor and sunny disposition, she provides compassionate care to her patients and eases the stress that comes along with an emergency room visit. Andrea communicates well with her patients to ensure that they don’t feel rushed through their emergency visit.
It is Andrea’s kind demeanor and compassion that she demonstrates on a daily basis to her coworkers and patients that earned her the title of Nurse of the Year.
Andrea was presented with a beautiful engraved trophy at an employee luncheon as well as a gift certificate to Lucky’s Steakhouse and a voucher for an educational seminar/conference of her choice.
