Bennett Brothers Head to Regionals

On Saturday, February 11, the Marlette Red Raiders dispatched four male wrestlers to participate in an individual district wrestling tournament at New Lothrop. John Machia grappled fiercely but ultimately lost in the first round of the 285-pound category. Wesley Chapin was granted a second-round bye but ended up losing a hard-fought match.

Turlough Bennett won his first two bouts, securing his place in the championship round. Turlough was looking unstoppable until the final match where he was unable to pull off a win, losing in overtime by a 6-2 decision.
Manus Bennett remained unbeatable throughout the day and emerged victorious in all his matches, earning his second district title of his career. As a result, both Bennett brothers will proceed to the Regional competition in Ithaca, scheduled for Saturday, February 18.

Turlough Bennett (left) took second at Districts and will advance to Regionals on Saturday.
