The Sandusky Wolves hosted the Ubly Bearcats for a double header with the Varsity Girls at home in Sandusky last Friday night. The Bearcats were short-handed after a social media stunt caused the head coach to bench his entire team and bring up the junior varsity to play in the matchup. Sandusky took advantage of the deficit and ran the score up on the young Bearcats. Sandusky led by eight after one and by twenty-two at halftime. Sandusky took their foot off the gas pedal slightly in the second half but continued their dominance of Ubly. Sandusky finished the game ahead by thirty-one points, 50-19.
The win was a team effort, with no Wolf in particular shining above another. Braden Bender led the Wovles with eight points, three rebounds and a steal. Jackson Kartanys had seven points, four rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Kyle Guibord had six points, four steals and two rebounds. Andrew Bolsby had six points, an assist and a rebound. Carter Krause had four points and a steal. Caleb Minard four points, two steals, an assist and a rebound. Gabe Drabant had four points and four rebounds. Christian, Tanner Taege, and Kelton Bukoski each had three points and Nick Leen had two points in the win. Sandusky moves to 11-6 (8-1 GTC East) with the win over Ubly. Sandusky’s win keeps them one game behind Brown City in the race for the league title. The Wolves still have to beat the Red Raiders in Marlette and the Green Devils in Brown City if they want a chance at a share of this year’s league crown.
