Deckerville Community Schools Board of Education – Regular Meeting Minutes August 21, 2023
The Deckerville Community Schools Board of Education met in regular session on August 21, 2023 in the high school library.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Board President, Brandon Stolicker.
Members present: Kendra Messing, Curt Vogel, Richard Hamill, Brandon Stolicker, Danielle Walsh
Members absent: Jason McConnachie, Randee Kirkpatrick
Administrators present: Matthew Connelly, Josh Stern, Aaron Sutherland
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Kendra Messing to adopt the amended agenda to add in the nominations for Vice President for the August 21, 2023 Regular Meeting. Carried.
Motion by Kendra Messing, support by Richard Hamill to approve the Organizational/Regular meeting minutes of July 31, 2023. Carried.
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Kendra Messing to approve the General Fund bills in the amount of $98,495.22. Carried.
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Richard Hamill to approve the Athletic fund bills in the amount of $4,045.87 as presented. Carried.
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Richard Hamill to approve the Student/School Activity Fund bills in the amount of $810.00 as presented. Carried.
Motion by Kendra Messing, support by Curt Vogel to approve the Food Service Fund bills in the amount of $175.06. Carried.
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Kendra Messing to approve the Capital Projects Fund bills in the amount of $99,053.14. Carried.
The Board reviewed the prompt pay bills for July 2023.
The Board heard reports from department head Johnny Kirkpatrick, Facility-Wide Maintenance Supervisor and administrative staff Aaron Sutherland, Elementary Principal, and Josh Stern, High School Principal.
Motion by Kendra Messing, support by Danielle Walsh to accept, with regret, the resignation of Tessa Roggenbuck from the 6th grade teacher position. Carried.
Motion by Kendra Messing, support by Curt Vogel to approve the hiring of Valerie Kneffel for the 6th grade teacher position. Carried.
Motion by Danielle Walsh, support by Richard Hamaill to approve the hiring of Mariah Stancliff for the Preschool Teacher Assistance position. Carried.
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Richard Hamill to approve the hiring of David Ford for JH/HS Para-Pro. Carried.
Motion by Kendra Messing, support by Curt Vogel to approve the hiring of Johnny Kirkpatrick for the Bus Supervisor position at a rate of $5,000.00. Carried.
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Richard Hamill to approve the course catalogs for Deckerville Jr./Sr. High School and Deckerville Elementary as presented for the 2023-24 school year. Carried.
Motion by Curt Vogel, support by Kendra Messing to nominate Richard Hamill for Vice President. Carried.
Brandon Stolicker, Board President, appointed Danielle Walsh to the Operations Committee.
Motion by Kendra Messing, support by Richard Hamill to adjourn at 7:27 p.m.
The Board toured the facilities.
