GOLDEN HAMMER AWARDS: There has been a significant amount of business investment in the community since the last Citizen of the Year Banquet. Nearly three dozen business received a Golden Hammer Award for this year. WINTER WINNERS: Congratulations to all of the winter sports teams following the conclusion of the 2018-19 season. Each of our area teams enjoyed a good deal of success. Here’s a salute to the Girls Basketball District Champion Deckerville Eagles, State Qualifier Sandusky Boys Bowling, as well as the SHS Wrestling Team and Girls Basketball Team.
BLACK SATURDAY: Sandusky and Deckerville lost power at around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday due to an equipment failure at the sub-station on Sandusky’s east side. A good portion of the service was restored by 5:00 p.m. Saturday with most others back Sunday. Repairs at the Edison facility continue as some of Sandusky experienced a power interruption on Tuesday morning.
PIRATES NOT RAIDERS: Marlette police are seeking charges against four teenage suspects relating to a series of vehicle break-ins over the first weekend of March. Residents called police reporting individuals with flashlight early Saturday morning. On Sunday, numerous calls came in reporting items taken from vehicles including cell phone chargers, wallets, and a pistol. The pistol was recovered near the city park.
According to Marlette Police several warrant requests will be filed with the Sanilac County Prosecutors office for review for multiple charges. The suspects range in age from 15 to 18.
PLAY BALL: The Snover Recreation League is looking for boys and girls ages 3-8 who want to play ball. The league starts May 28 and runs through June 27 and ends on July 13 with the Snover Days Parade. Games will be played on Monday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m. For information contact snoverrec@yahoo.com
K OF C DINNER: There will be a Fish and Shrimp dinner hosted by the Marlette Knights of Columbus at the St. Elizabeth Church Hall in Marlette on March 15, from 4:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Carry outs are available.
DINNER FOR DRAMA: A Mostaccioli dinner will be held March 20th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church Hall, 59 N. Moore Street in Sandusky. This is a fundraiser for the Sandusky Drama Department and carry out is available.
FREE VETERAN DINNER: There will be the 3rd Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner on April 13, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. This dinner will be held at the Marlette Jr./Sr. High School and are by reservation only. NEW KINGSTON LIBRARY HOURS: Opperman Memorial Library in Kingston, has new public library hours during school days, effective April 1:
Monday: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Friday – closed; Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The public will no longer be able to enter during school hours.
Non-school days hours for the public: (Summer/school break): Monday: Closed; Tuesday, Friday, Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; Wednesday/Thursday: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

MUSEUM TO HOST ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY/CONCERT: The spirit of St. Patrick is alive and well in Port Sanilac. The Sanilac County Museum’s St. Patrick’s Day Party and Concert is the place to get green and celebrate with all that’s Irish this year. The band “Ourselves” will be performing an acoustic concert event where you can expect to hear Irish ballads of love and drink, brawling and revolution, as well as comic music of the Irish experience. Ourselves features local musicians Lynn Surbrook, along with Walt and Tom Schlichting. Special thanks go out to the Sanilac Consortium for the Arts for their financial support of the Museum’s concert series.
Corned beef sandwiches and beer or root beer will be served.
The concert/party begins at 3:00 p.m., on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, in the Village Church on the grounds of the Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum, located at 228 S.Ridge St in Port Sanilac. Reserved seats tickets are free, but you must present your ticket and payment at the door: $10 for members and $20 for guests.
