Raiders fall to Millington, topple Memphis

The Marlette Red Raiders baseball team fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 8-4 loss to Millington last Monday.
The boys lost despite out-hitting Millington eight to five.
Millington got things moving in the first inning, when an error scored one run for Millington. Millington scored three runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Millington came thanks to a sacrifice fly by Drew Germain and an error on a ball put in play by Kyle Paquette.
Cole Hill led things off on the mound for Millington. He went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking zero.
Marlette Red Raiders Varsity tallied eight hits. Sean Quade and Marcus Armstrong each racked up multiple hits for Marlette Red Raiders Varsity. Armstrong and Quade each managed two hits to lead Marlette Red Raiders Varsity.
Kohlton Sherman went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Millington in hits.
The Raiders Varsity lost the lead late in a 2-3 loss to Memphis on Thursday. The game was tied at two with Memphis batting in the top of the seventh when an error scored one run for Memphis.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Memphis pitchers struck out eight, while Marlette Red Raiders Varsity sat down 11.
Marlette Red Raiders Varsity captured the lead in the second inning. Sean Quade drew a walk, scoring one run. In the top of the sixth inning, Memphis tied things up at two when Haller singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Blanco got the start for Memphis. He went six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out seven.
Alex Heussner was on the mound for Marlette Red Raiders Varsity. He surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out 11.
Heussner went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Marlette Red Raiders Varsity in hits.
Memphis racked up seven hits. Haller and Malinowski all collected multiple hits for Memphis.
In the nightcap, the Marlette Red Raiders Varsity defeated Memphis 5-0, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Cody Hayden struck out #3 to finish off the game.
The Raiders Varsity tallied three runs in the seventh inning. Marlette Red Raiders Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included Sean Quade, Marcus Armstrong, and Alex Heussner, who all drove in runs.
A single by Blanco in the first inning was a positive for Memphis.
Armstrong was on the hill for Marlette Red Raiders Varsity. He surrendered zero runs on three hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one.
Walsh was on the mound for Memphis. He lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out four. Steir threw one inning in relief.
Armstrong went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Marlette Red Raiders Varsity in hits.
