Thumb Ag Day Slated for Dec. 14

Michigan State University Extension and local agriculture extension agents will be hosting Thumb Ag Day on Wednesday, December 14th at Ubly Heights Golf and Country Club.
After two years of virtual programming, the event is returning to an in-person event.
Thumb Ag Day will be much the same as before the hiatus with a tradeshow in addition to the educational meetings. However, new in 2022 is a track focused on animal agriculture which will take place in the morning.
One of the featured guest speakers is Tammy Giroux, a Wildlife Biologist with the Department of Natural Resources based in the Cass City Field Office. Tammy’s presentation begins at 9:15 a.m. and will cover “Wildlife Management for Crop Damage”. She will be available to answer questions at the end of her presentation. In addition, new this year, MSU Extension will be offering sessions for animal ag producers. One of the speakers for this portion of the educational programming is Dr. Jerad Jaborek, Feedlot Educator with MSU Extension. His presentation will begin at 9:00 a.m. when he will present the results of recent research conducted on beef by Holstein crosses. He will also be available for a question-and-answer session following his presentation.
As in years past, vendors will be available for you to visit. Some of the Agribusinesses supporting producers that will be present this year are: Advance Trading; Bayer Crop Science; Gilbert Sales and Service Inc; Wessels Enterprises Inc; Ameriprise Financial; Morton Buildings Inc; Michigan Agricultural Commodities (MAC); Heads Up Plant Protectants; Thumb Community Health Partnership; Michael Sahr Crop Insurance Agency LLC; TEC Fiber; DF Seeds; Bay Port State Bank; Larry’s Decorating Inc; Yeo & Yeo CPAs and Business Consultants; and D/S Services Inc just to name a few of the vendors available to chat with you. Exhibits open and 8:30 a.m. and will be available until 3:30 p.m. The tradeshow will open at 8:30am and run throughout the day until 3:30pm.
There will be an optional lunch buffet available from 11:30-1:00pm for a cost of $10. Pre-registration is not required. Simply come to Ubly Heights, visit with the vendors, and attend any educational sessions that interest you.

The field crops track will be offered in the classroom area with RUP credits available throughout the day. The animal agriculture track is new and will take place in the dining area on the west end of the building from 9:15-11:15am.
