The Marlette Lady Red Raiders hosted the Ubly Bearcats at home last Friday for a GTC double header. Senior standout pitcher Dalaney Gage was on the cusp of breaking the 300 strikeout mark before the start of the games and tallied 25 strikeouts between the two contests, enough to push her past the single milestone.
Gage broke the single game strikeout record earlier this season. Gage gave up just one hit and one run in the first matchup.
The Lady Raiders rallied for two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the third. Marlette kept Ubly scoreless until the sixth inning when they were able to bring home what would be their only run in game one.
Hits came off the bats of Gage and Newland in game one, with Newland also bringing in two runners with a pair of RBIs.
The Lady Bearcats struggled to get things going in the second contest, only earning one hit against the arm of Dalaney Gage.
The Lady Red Raiders rallied for two runs in the first, four in the second, two more in the third and six in the fourth to run their score up to 14 while keeping the Lady Bearcats completely scoreless. Hits came off the bats of Klatzke, Gage, Bartz, Newland, Hayley Hazen, Crane, Turland and Reber. The Lady Raiders played one more regular season contest Tuesday night against Elkton Pigeon Bayport before traveling to Peck this Saturday for the first round of playoffs. Gage broke the 323 strikeout season record in Marlette’s final regular season contest against Lakers. Check back next week for the full story from that game.
