5 Signs That It Is Exam Prep Week:
1. Ninety-percent of the student body is wearing sweatpants.
2. No pupil looks like they have slept more than three hours a night.
3. The tutoring classroom is filled after school.
4. Students are repeatedly inquiring about extra credit.
5. Maniacal laughter can be heard coming from the teachers’ lounge.
The end of the first semester of the 2015-2016 school year is fast approaching, and the exams that not-so-long-ago seemed to be a problem for the future, are now a priority for the students here, at Marlette Junior/Senior High School.
This prioritizing is for good reason. Exams account for twenty-percent of a student’s semester grade. The final exams are treated likewise, at least for all non-seniors. Marlette staff, as an incentive to finish their final year of high school strong, implemented a senior exam exemption policy. Any senior that receives no behavioral repercussions, is absent fewer than nine days, and earns an eighty-percent or higher in any regular-level class, may be exempt from taking that class’s final exam.
These exams, both midterm and final, are especially important to any student wishing to achieve academic recognition. At the close of each school year, students are rewarded titles for their success as scholars. If a student earns all A’s and B’s, they are considered on the Honor Roll. Any student obtaining all A’s is rewarded with the ever-creative title of All A’s. Any pupil maintaining a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5/4.0 through their high school career is a designated with senior honors. A senior whom completed three or more college-level classes, and maintained a 3.0 grade point average, is given silver cords to wear with their graduation gown, recognizing them as an honor student. Golden, high-honor, cords are issued to those who took three or more college-level classes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 is considered high honors.
Honors such as those aforementioned are common knowledge of the Marlette students. With dreams of earning such titles, our high school students will push through this week and prove that here, in Raider country, you truly can expect the best!
