Carsonville – Port Sanilac Senior Scholars
Stepanie Cahoon, daughter of Charlie Cahoon and the late Kathy Cahoon, has been named a Senior Scholar of the Class of 2021. Stephanie is a 2 year member of the National Honor Society, and a student council representative. She is a Theatre 13 actress from 2019-2021, captain of the Science Academic Team, and a Sanilac County FFA member, where she placed 4th in prepared public speaking at districts. Stephanie has been an all “A” honor roll student from 2017-2021, and has received awards in Biology, Physical Science and French II. Stephanie played volleyball her freshman through junior years, 2 yrs were on the varsity team. She plays captain of the basketball team, she has received NCTL honors 2nd team in 2019 and 2020, in 2021 she was a NCTL Honors 1st team. She has participated in track where she competed on second team NCTL Honors for the 1,600m run in 2019, a distance specialist team MVP in 2019 and is a record holder in the 800m and 1,600m run and in cross-country she is second team NCTL honors 2020, and record holder in the 5,000m run.
Stephanie plans to attend Central Michigan University and will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science.
Liliana Grigg, daughter of Paul and Jessica Grigg, has been named a Senior Scholar of the Class of 2021. Liliana is the Vice – President of the Student Council, Secretary of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Science Academic Team. Liliana is the captain of the volleyball team, holding school records for spikes and blocks. Her junior year she was 2nd team in the NCTL and 1st team her senior year in the NCTL All-Conference Selection. She has competed in track and cross-country, and is a 4 year member of the Academic All State Softball Team. Liliana has numerous volunteer opportunities through the Sanilac County Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and through the National Honor Society. Some of her experiences were with blood drives, senior dances, organizing grants, food drives as well as volunteering at the Sanilac County Humane Society and at the Sanilac County Historical Village and Museum in Port Sanilac.
Liliana plans to attend SC4 for the next two years and earn an associates degree in the field of science, then transfer to a university to earn a bachelor’s degree in engineering. She hopes to eventually earn a master’s degree.
Abigail Norton, daughter of Damon and Amy Norton, has been named a Senior Scholar of the Class of 2021. Abigail has been the Drum Major the last 2 years in the CPS Marching Band, having been in band since the 5th grade, and while in band she was selected to participate her junior year in the Tri-County Honors Band. She has been an actress/thespian in Theatre 13 the last 4 years. Abigail is the President of the National Honor Society and is in her 2nd year of membership. She has been a member of the English Academic Team since 8th grade and serving as captain 10-12th grades. She has been the President of Student Council 9-11th grades and participated in Quiz Bowl for 2 years. Abigail has played volleyball every year since 7th grade and earned the Sportsmanship Award her junior year. Abigail volunteers at the Port Sanilac United Methodist Church and through the NHS. Some of her experiences were with blood drives, senior dances, food drives, tutoring underclassmen at CPS, as well as volunteering at the Sanilac County Humane Society and at the Sanilac County Historical Village and Museum in Port Sanilac.
Abigail plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to participate in their marching band and major in medical laboratory science.
Jamy Sheridan, granddaughter of Michael Sheridan and the late Lorraine Sheridan, has been named a Senior Scholar of the Class of 2021. Jamy is a 2 year member of the National Honor Society serving as Vice-President this year, President of the Student Council and was secretary the past 3 years, and was a band percussionist for 2 years. Jamy has played volleyball her junior and senior years, ran cross country all 4 years holding a record her freshman and sophomore years, and participated in track where she competed as a sprinter earning a MVP her freshman year. Jamy is also a gymnast at All American Flames Gymnastix since kindergarten, has been a competitive gymnast for the past 9 years, she is receiving a scholarship for Acro and Tumbling. Jamy is a member of YAC (Youth Advisory Council) all 4 years, helped with food drives, assisting in grant decisions, and volunteered at the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum. She participated in My Lead Leadership Conference her sophomore year, was in 4-H Archery from 2014-2019 was a Senior Ambassador in 2019.
Jamy plans to attend Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina on an athletic and academic scholarship, and will be pursuing a degree in international business with a career track of pre-law.
