Sheriff Department Shutdown Puppy Mill

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, Deputies and Sanilac County Animal Control executed a search warrant on Huron County Line Road in Greenleaf Township.
The search warrant stemmed from complaints about a person breeding and selling animals and the animals living in deplorable conditions.
Deputies arrived on scene and found the home was in fact in deplorable condition. A strong odor of urine and feces could be smelled coming from the home while outside of the residence.
Inside, where 46 dogs were located, the ammonia smell was overwhelming. Dogs were located throughout the home and in cages living in fecal matter and urine soaked flooring. Many of the dogs were covered in feces and were urine soaked.
All 46 dogs,four cats and one bird were removed by Animal Control.
Animal Control is currently caring for all animals and providing the necessary care and treatment needed.
This case is actively being investigated by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of Sanilac Animal Control.
The animals are not available for adoption at this time.
This case remains active and is ongoing. No additional information will be released at this time.
