Marlette Band awarded prestigious First Division
On Monday, October 12th, many local bands from Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac and even Genesee counties traveled to Laker High School to participate in Thumb Friends of the Arts Marching Band Festival. Our very own Marlette Red Raider Marching Band was one of the many bands that participated. At Festival the bands perform their halftime show for a panel of judges. These judges give them a score in the following three categories: Marching, Music, and General Effect. These scores are then compiled and averaged to assign each band a rating from 1st through 3rd division, with a 1st division rating being a superior performance and the best rating possible.
All bands performed well and entertained the crowd with music of all genres, from The Beach Boys to music from popular movies, and everything in between. The Marlette Red Raider Marching Band performed their halftime show from this year which features the music of Lady Gaga. The Red Raiders opened their show with “Poker Face,” followed by “Bad Romance,” and closed the show with Lady Gaga’s most recent hit, “Applause.”
The band has worked incredibly hard on their halftime show going all the way back to the middle of August, when students began their school year with a week of band camp which consists of long, hot days that are filled with lots of hard work and sunscreen. The Red Raider Band has been able to continue to improve upon their performances each football game, and has continued to grow in preparation for Marching Band Festival.
The Red Raider Band performed admirably and received a 1st division rating at festival. Director, Mrs. Aikens, the students, parents, and the community are all extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that these students have committed themselves to and are happy to see the results pay off.
Congratulations Marlette Red Raider Marching Band!
