Thumb Festival Returns

Sandusky’s Thumb Fest is once again in our midst! This weekend presents some of the most exciting moments of Sandusky’s summer. In addition, the Thumb Festival offers such a multitude of activities there is something for everyone. This exciting celebration is just the beginning of several other upcoming activities, including the impending 4th of July!
Beginning on Thursday, the entire city will be littered with garage sales, giving everyone the opportunity to find some great deals. The S.A.V.E. Council will continue their annual Glow Walk at the Diamond Trail starting at dusk. Anyone is invited to participate and assist in efforts to gain donations for the Eva’s Place Shelter.
Friday will be filled with an excess of fun activities to enjoy. In the morning, senior citizens are welcome to take part in the Senior Fair at the Sandusky High School organized by Sanilac County Building Ties. From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the school will be full of presentations, live entertainment, and the chance to win prizes! The high school will be open for Alumni basketball games starting at 7:00 p.m. The lawn chair music series will also kick off at 7:00 p.m. with the Joey Vee Band, which plans on performing modern country, pop, rock, classic rock, southern rock, and some original pieces. Lastly, refreshments will be offered behind Liberty Lanes until 2:00 a.m., leaving plenty of time to enjoy every aspect of the day!
Saturday morning, individuals have the option to start their day with a 5k Run/Walk at the Diamond Trail at 8:00 a.m. Additionally, crafts and antiques will be for sale along S. Elk St. and on the courthouse lawn from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Kid’s Fun Day on Speaker St. runs until 3:00 p.m. Around noon, the Little Prince and Princess will be crowned, adding to the multitude of celebrations. Kids will also have the chance to enjoy the pedal pulls from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Tri-County Equipment, where free ice cream will be offered to everyone. Throughout this time a car show will be held on the courthouse lawn adjacent to the antiques from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Before the festivities conclude, the “Bed Races” will compete on West Speaker St. at 6:00 p.m. Of course, to finish such an amazing day there will be a fireworks displace at dusk!
Finally, Sunday’s events will include the Fly in Breakfast at the Airport at 7:00 a.m. joined with a bike show and Poker Run. All church services will be uniquely combined on the courthouse lawn at 10:00 a.m. Then the craft show will carry on until the parade at 1:00 p.m. The always notable parade will be accompanied by another amazing performance by the Sandusky Marching Band, countless floats, and of course endless handfuls of candy!
