Native American Heritage Fund Awards Sandusky Schools Grant for Mascot Change

The Native American Heritage Fund awarded Sandusky Community Schools a grant for $74,604.08 in order to “rebrand athletic equipment, signage and athletic uniforms with new “Wolves” mascot imagery.” The Sandusky School Board had previously sought the grant last year but their request was denied because the school was not far enough along in the process of changing the mascot. The change comes on the heels of a controversy over the change that culminated in the recall of several school board members. The school board seats are up for election this fall.
