Sandusky Tennis Narrowly Misses Out on State Finals

Sandusky Tennis traveled to Saginaw Nouvel for Regionals last week and missed qualifying for state finals by just two points. Carson Shampo was defeated Round one: 6-4 and 6-1. Christian Shuart met a similar fate, falling 6-0 and 6-3 in the first round. Emma Minard won her first round matchup against Frankenmuth’s Sam Soyza 6-1 and 6-0, but fell in the second round 6-2 and 6-4. Gabe Drabant won his first round matchup 6-1 and 6-1 and also made it past his secound round opponent 6-1 and 6-0. Drabant fell in the championship round 7-5 and 7-5. Carson Shuart and Brock Kaufman won their first round 6-0 and 6-0 but fell in the second round 7-6 and 6-2.
Zach Scribner and Jacob Pink won their first round matchup 6-1 and 7-5 but fell in the second round 6-1 and 6-3. David Carlson and Finn Nugent won their first round match by forfeit but fell to their second round opponent 6-4, 4-6, and 6-2. Abbey Thorp and Addison Baumeister also won their first round matchup by default, but managed to get past their second round opponenet as well 6-2 and 6-2. Thorp and Baumeister fell in the final round 7-6 and 6-3.
Sandusky’s performance earned them eight total points on the day, with just two points separating them from a trip to the state finals.
