Enjoy East Ports Blues Festival this Weekend
The 2015 East Ports Blues Festival will take place this weekend in Port Sanilac, Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1. The festival will open at 4:00 p.m. on Friday evening and 11:00 a.m on Saturday morning and close at midnight each night.
The festival features eleven of the best Blues bands in the Detroit area. This year’s band line up includes Red River, The Shier Blues Band, Roadside Rick & The Breakdowns, Big Bill Harwell Band, Dirty Basement Blues, Kenny Parker, Bobby Murray, The Alligators, The Boa Constrictors, Four Generations of Detroit Blues Guitar Glenn James, and Jimmy Alter, Jimmy Showers, Brendon Linsely, and Broken Arrow Blues Band.
A Lighthouse Fun Run 5k will also take place on Saturday. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the race to follow at 9:00 a.m. The race costs $25 with an additional $2.50 registration fee. The course starts and ends at the Lighthouse on Lake Street, and follows the shoreline.
Following the race, a Piloxing class with Christine Tanton will be offered at the Harbour Park at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Participants are encouraged to bring 1/2 pound gloves and a yoga mat if they have them.
New to the Blues Festival this year are Arts/Crafts and Merchandise vendors, all of which can be found at the Harbour Park.
The East Ports Blues Festival also features a Michgan Craft Beer Tent. The beer distributor for the event is Gerry’s Distributing and includes great tasting beer from a number of breweries including Atwater Brewery, Griffin Claw, Dragonmead, and Cheboygan Brewing Co. The beer tent is open from 6:00 p.m.- Midnight on Friday and 12:00 p.m.-Midnight on Saturday.
