Public invited to join SC4 Bands, Choirs

Six different St. Clair County Community College community bands and choirs are seeking community musicians and singers.
Teenagers and adults are invited to the join the SC4 Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Community Choir or String Ensemble. Youth are invited to join the SC4 Youth Jazz Band or Youth Choir.
Each group asks for members to commit to weekly practices and periodic concerts.
The Community Choir is open to ages 16 and up. They practice once a week on Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. starting January 18. They perform several concerts throughout the year, including outreach concerts in the community. This year’s choir also will perform with Three Men and a Tenor during the group’s March 5 performance at SC4. The choir is directed by Carly Van Dyke. Cost is $25.
The Symphonic Band and Jazz Band are open to ages 14 and older. They meet on Wednesdays, starting January 13. The Symphonic Band meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The Jazz Band meets from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Both bands are directed by Erick Senkmajer. Cost is $35, and covers either band, or both.
The String Ensemble is open to ages 13 and up. It meets from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursdays starting January 21, and is directed by Yekaterina Nevskaya-Poynter. Cost is $200.
The Youth Jazz Band and Youth Choir are open to young musicians and singers.
Youth Jazz Band will practice from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays starting Januuary 18. Members must have one year experience on their primary instrument. Mike Yaros is the band’s instructor. Cost is $180.
The Youth Choir meets from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays starting January 25, and is for children ages 11 to 15. The choir is directed by Carly Van Dyke. Cost is $135.
