Legion Make History with Playoff Win

The Thumb Area Legion traveled to Flint to take on the Tawas Area Braves in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday after the weather caused the game to be delayed by a day. Tawas jumped out to an early lead over the Legion, outscoring them 2-1 in the first period. The Legion returned the favor in the second period, tying things up at 3-3 to start the third period. Both teams were evenly matched in the third period, tying things up again 4-4 by the end of regulation. Neither team was able to score in the first overtime but the Legion were saved by Matthew Cummings netted the game winner with about five minutes to go in overtime. Caleb Lentner, Colton Hooper, Matthew Cummings and Chase Talaski each earned an assist and a goal in the win. Wyatt Ryan also netted a goal. Dylan Barrigar had two assists and Marshall Ryan had a single assist in the win. Lauren Eager tended goal for the Legion, saving 28 of 32 shots on goal for a save percentage of 87.5%. The Legion earned their first post-season win in franchise history with the victory over the Braves and took the ice against Flint Powers Catholic on Saturday, falling 9-0.
